Irrigation projects from the Narmada River and other infrastructural advances have facilitated the greening of Kutch, the desert district of Gujarat. With this, new and foreign food practices are rapidly encroaching the space that once belonged to the traditional fare that sustained people for centuries in this harsh desert.
Travelling through the region and speaking with local elders, farmers and traders, in this essay I take a closer look at the repercussions of turning one of India's most arid regions into greener pastures.
