In 2016, I spent the better part of two weeks driving across the East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi districts of Meghalaya on an independent research trip about the region's food culture.
I had the incredible opportunity to meet and stay with local hosts across the capital, Shillong, and three remote villages across the hills, valleys and plains of the state, to understand traditional systems of agriculture, food gathering, local markets, and regional cuisines. This trip also helped me learn the skills, sensitivity and empathy required for field research.
