University of Gastronomic Sciences, Italy

Since 2016, I have been liaising with the University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG), in Italy, to help plan the Bangalore segment of their annual South India study trip, recommending and coordinating field visits to local food organisations and businesses.

In 2020, I was invited by the University invited me to speak on the topic of my essay In Defence of Rice, as a part of their Virtual India Study Trip, in lieu of their annual study trip during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The presentation covered the history of rice diversification on the Indian subcontinent and the thousands of varieties of landraces that were grown here, the effects of the Green Revolution on India’s native rice diversity, and some incredible grassroots efforts at revival through cultivation and seed banking.
